When working on things in my shop that allow me to listen to music (meaing no power tools running to drown it out, I am partial to 40's 50's and 60's music, mostly what is now called Country, but also what was then called "popular" and Rock 'n Roll. What do you like.

Strange as it sounds, I listen to audiobooks. For some reason I have no problem listening to the story as I'm working.

Dave
I've tried that a couple of times but I tend to miss too much, back ground music, I really don't have to "hear" to enjoy but the audio books I do.

I have been getting into that myself, I don't do the download thing however. but I will purchase CD's of books.

I just finished The Joiner and the Cabinetmaker. Read by Roy Underhill.

BUT when not in the mood for a book, I am a dyed in the wool hard rock metal head. from Cooper to Zepplin, The Who, Van Halen, Van Hagar, RUSH, Triumph, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, Ted Nugent, Dio, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Kansas Blue Oyster Cult
..... I think you get the Idea...

#1 station is XM Chanel 56 Willies Roadhouse. oldies in the country music. when in shop I listen to Political talk radio.
I listen to talk radio (mostly political) when driving in my truck and sometimes when my wife is at the swimming pool - she does not like political talk radio.

I mostly listen to audiobooks or podcasts. Sometimes, I'll listen to movies or TV via iphone apps. It's rare that I listen to music while working.

I love old hymns I have my phone set up like an ipod and have several by George Beverly Shea and other singers. My all time favorite is "Come thou fount" followed by "How Great thou art" and the "Old rugged cross" They bring out the creativity in me
My dad had a great bass singing voice and I loved to listen to him sing Old Rugged Cross. My brother could also sing real well and Wispering Hope was my favorite when he sang it. How Great Thou Art is high on my list of favorite hymns along with Pecious Lord Take My Hand, Amazing Grace and a host of others. I love Hymns.

Hoopla

My library just started subscribing to Hoopla - free audio books (to borrow). All movies, TV shows...just need a library card (and a library LOL).

Le Roy we both listen to the same type of music.

Stuck in the 60's.
Streaming radio in my office is set to Radio Vietnam - radio in my shop is set to the only halfway decent classic rock station in Houston (except when a Texans or UH football game is on). Sirius-XM radio is always on 50's On 5 whenever my wife is in the truck.

I listen to pop/rock/country made before 1985. If I had to listen to rap or that hippity hoppity stuff I'd moisten my ears then squirt them full of Gorilla Glue!!

Mostly its the hum of the dust collector under my hearing protection, followed by the lathe (or that blasted mandrel (when I use it) if it decides to play me the song of its people). When the machines are off, the radio is pretty much on an oldies station. I'll also occasionally listen to jazz or inspirational music/hymns.

I like everything from Dobie Gray, Etta James, Journey, Metallica to the Zac Brown Band. Got a Southern Gospel list about 50 songs long and a Contemporary list to match.

a thread of everyone's top 10, as in only 10 songs you could ever listen to again. That would be an interesting read. Make people really think about em.

You're Not Alone

OK... I'm the outlier here... Debussy, Ravel, Vivaldi, Bach...:eek::eek:

I as well, Mark. However, I don't particularly like Debussy and Ravel, and I find Bach boring. Give me some Wagner (instrumental stuff only), Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Berliotz, and Dvorak.

Never when I'm in the shop, however.

Jazz, blues, Christian rock. Talk Radio in the truck...I get bored easy, driving at 2 am...I need the distraction and involvement.

If I had to listen to the same 10 songs over and over for the rest of my life, I fear I'd eventually epoxy my earplugs in place

I listen to mostly Dulcimer. Both hammered and string. I have built a couple of each but I prefer the lap dulcimer. I play AT it a little. I would love to learn to hammered but at this stage of the game, my brain don't send signals to my hands fast enough if you know what I mean.
