Friends,

I am starting to do some more turning of bowls and want to try doing some hollow form stuff. I have 2 questions:

1. What is your favorite hollowing tool?

2. I have heard that these tools are better if they have some sort of stabilization to keep them from rotating. Do I really need this?

Thanks,

I recently started doing bowls as well. I ordered a Robert Sorby bowl gouge for about $80 that works reasonably well. Since then I made an Oland Tool that I learned how to do at this website: http://aroundthewoods.com/oland.shtml

It didn't cost me anything to make mine as I had all the parts required. I was able to easily hollow out a bowl of some unknown exotic wood that I couldn't easily do with any other tool I had.

Here's a Youtube video of the guy using the tool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC_--ooKegw&feature=related

Great video and site. I'll give it a try. My Dad used to be a welder (then an orthodontist - go figure), so he's good with metal.
