I did it. I did some research and went ahead to order some. Upon their arrival today I was almost hesitant to open the package. Right away I noticed a smokey scent to them.. So I showed my brother that they cam in so we both ate one and this is the story of what happens next.....

At first nothing and within 10-20 seconds the heat starts , nose starts to run, eyes water :crying:, then after about 30-40 seconds the heat goes away and the pain begins . Pain like you never felt before. It starts with your tongue, then your throat, then your jaw starts to get tight and your ears begin to hurt. As it starts to level off after about 4 minutes, it decides to sneak attack you hence the name "ghost pepper" and the pain begins to build even more. The pain keeps building until about the 15 minute mark and then it slowly starts to get back to normal. As the pain dies down, the throat starts to burn and you teeth go numb for quite a while.

I do not suggest doing this! If you feel you have to, please have at least two gallons of milk handy per person trying it. You take a sip, swish it around for about 2 seconds and the pain is back full force. You will go through those gallons fast!

Oh yeah, bread don't work!

Here is the deal with these ghost peppers.... The actual name for them is "Bhut Jolokia". Hot peppers are measured by the heat (pain) it causes called Scoville units or SHU.

Here is a basic breakdown of Scoville units:

Jalapeno- 3,000-7,000 SHU

Habanero - 100,000-300,000 SHU

And

Bhut Jolokia- 1,000,000-1,500,000 SHU

I hope you all enjoy this review as I went through serious pain to research the data for you! LOL

As an organic gardener, I've used hot peppers as an insecticide for years. I don't eat hot peppers but I would grow Thai Hot peppers that look like tiny red carrots. Three or four of them ground up and mixed with water makes a spray that will kill off caterpillars, aphids etc. I suspect that these peppers would probably cremate the poor critters. My fear of growing these peppers is picking them and then accidently wiping sweat out of my eyes:eek:

Thanks for sharing the information on these peppers.

There are some interesting videos on You Tube showing the reactions of people who try to eat these 'ghost peppers.'

For me, I am not a fan of "hot." Mild salsa is just fine for me. :)

No problem.. You could order organic seeds and grow them but I believe the should be controlled in a separate area so they dont contaminate the rest of your garden. From what I hear, they are great for making hot sauce as one pepper could probably get you about 20 bottles.

I saw a lot of those videos and every one of them had the same thing in common, pain.. LOL I had to try just to be able to say I tried the hottest pepper in the world according to guiness...... and now me...lol

I was going to video tape it by my crazy brother took a bite before I had a chance to even get mine out of the bag.. lol

Did it occur to you to WATCH your brother, BEFORE you sampled one???

Witnessing pain can sometimes make one decide to alter their behavior to AVOID that same pain.

(That's called learning from someone else's experiences!!)

Of course, if it were effective, children would not feel the need to touch hot stoves to be certain they hurt:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I'll stick with banana peppers:smile:. although i'm not sure about 2 gallons of milk. I once bet someone he couldn't drink a gallon of milk in an hour without throwing up. He lost. Tons of video's on youtube about this also.

I know the secret to that.. skim milk you can do. but not whole milk. the reason is the Milk has fat, and the body takes time to break that down. so someone who may be able to drink a gallon of beer or water in an hour, cant drink whole milk. the simple reason is the fat content and the fat takes up space in your stomach. So find the guy who lost the bet to you, and bet him you CAN drink it. just use skim milk. you'll win.
(provided of course that you can drink a gallon of other liquid in that time frame)

+1 on this...I am all set on this deal, but thanks for the description!

speaking of Youtube, go check out the "cinnamon challenge"...almost as bad as the ghost chili...almost

LOL @ Scott.. Lupe, Dont worry, as soon as I recover a bit I am going to do it again and video tape it. I will be sure to post it, however; I am not responsible for any vulgar language that comes with it.. LOL

I watched a guy at work eat one. Man it was intense. He kept saying it's getting hotter, then got the hiccups real bad. Sweat pouring from his head and cryed like a baby.

yeah and "Preparation H" won't help when you relieve yourself of the peppers either... If I recall my NBC Training in the Army... I would say that you are a victim of a Chemical Attack. in the worst kind...
