I have access to a willow tree that came down in a storm. Willow tends to get crown gall around here, so there are several smalll chunks of burl on the branches. Have you worked with it? Tips, suggestions, thoughts?

I had a neighbor take down a willow in his front yard several years back... it's a pretty stringy wood, but if you tools are sharp, it turns okay... the burls might be very interesting to work with... not a lot of figure in what I had.

There are many types of willow.
I love it.
I've made pens from Golden Willow, PeachLeaf Willow and Diamond Willow.
It's soft. I stabilize it with thin CA.

Can range from spectacular to plain . Sometimes a plain appearing piece will have a lot of chatoyance , and occasionally chatoyant birds-eyes . Can`t tell until you sand it . Colour varies with species , and if spalted can be anything . I regurlarly turn diamond , pussy and laurel leaf .

Thanks for the input. I'll have to see if I can find a good key to figure out what kind it is. I know its not a weeping willow, but the state hort database isn't really good at differentiating the species. I know that white willow has shown invasive tendencies in the area, and this tree really very large. It also isn't supposed to have very good wood. I'll have to go back down with some of my books and see if I can get an ID off of the others in the area.
