Got several reminders today of why I enjoy the penmaking community and the shows we play at....

Received a notice from the Post Office that I had a registered parcel to pick up...didn't remember ordering anything that would require a signature, so headed to the PO at lunch... pic 1 is what showed up! Shipped July 17....apparently it had to go MORE than half way around the world...Thank you Terry!

Got a call from an unfamiliar number.... show I have been trying to get into for a couple of years...actually made the waitlist this year...waiting paid off. This will be the largest show I have ever done and I have 2 weeks to get ready...YIKES (60-70K attendees over 3 days). Show theme is Waterfowl so I shot off an email to JohnU for some custom blanks...."no problem" he says...Thank you John!

Got home from work and opened up the mail...2nd pic is the note I received from Sarah who I met at a show a couple of weeks ago. She's about 8 and stopped by my booth and was looking (with just her eyes, no grabbing), loved all the pretty pens. I introduced her to the "testers" i keep out (fountain, RB and ballpoint) and told her she was welcome to try them gently...she will be a fountain writer one day! While she re-learned to hold a pen (you could tell she was used to grinding ink into paper) and filled two full pages of the test book, I prepped a princess pen (I don't sell them any longer, but have some leftovers that like to find good homes) with a Private Reserve refill and gave it to her to try out....little girls and crystals..... she was enthralled. I told her it was terribly expensive...it would cost her a Thank You note...meanwhile Mom picks out a very nice pen for herself .

Last up, Brad (swearingen) stops by with a neighbor of his who is now a penturner...Brad wanted to introduce him and take a shop tour.... they raided my "swap box" while we talked and Perry mentioned that his mother has always been an artist...showed him some painted pens and he says " she could do that"...we'll see...Gave him some tubes for her to try out...we'll cast them later and he can make her a pen.

Overwhelmingly good day...the kind that makes it worthwhile...thanks for listening to my rambling!

Thanks for sharing Jon - but it is hard to imagine you ever having a bad day. Every time we talk you seem to be in great spirits.

Congratulations on the show acceptance. Giving that pen to little Sarah was a great thing to do. But it doesn't surprise me at all. Wish I could stop by the show. I'm hoping you'll do well there. Thanks for sharing this with us.
