 I have a couple of blanks that I'm finishing with Enduro, I have them sealed and they look great, I let them dry over night and tonight or tomorrow night I'm planning to finish them. My question is, it says that between sealing and the final finish you should sand with MM 3200 to 12000. So should it be wet sanded with MM or dry?

I second the wet sanding whenever using MM. But it must be remembered to have a dry blank whenever adding another coat.

I have never used MM wet on Enduro. Don't sand Enduro with the lathe on a high speed. Also, if you follow up with plastic polish to get a high shine, do it at low speed and don't bear down too hard.

I use Enduro exclusively as a finish for wood and I'll second what redbulldog and Tom said: use your MM dry on Enduro. If you use it wet the underlying wood will wick up the moisture from the unsealed ends of the blank and ruin your finish. You should be OK if you let the sealer dry for 24 to 48 hours prior to MM; I get the best results on the top coat if I let it dry at least 72 hours -- and if you can let it sit for 5 days to cure even more it will polish out the best. After MM to 12000 I use a plastic polish for the highest gloss.

I am not going to disagree but I will say this. Whenever you use MM dry you wear it out prematurely. If you are afraid of water conatminating then you should do as fine furniture finishers do and use a lemon oil. I happen to use Formby's lemon oil to lubricate the sanding. I always buff out my lacquers with this method. Just my 2¢

I wet sand with mineral oil, wax, or odorless mineral spirits with wood. Once finish is on the mineral oil (or lemon scented mineral oil) works well. Wax or odorless mineral spirits works well to keep the media and abraisve cool, cuts the dust, and the swarf tells the story.

Point is that you do not need to use water to wet sand -- I get more consistent surfaces and longer runs on abrasives than dry sanding.

John, Believe what YOU want. I will continue to use MY MM dry. It is still cutting!!!

Oh I will believe it because I work more than just pens and when doing larger pieces you would notice it also. Too expensive to waste. Everyone has their own way. Good luck.

Hey Rick -- are you using the enduro pre cat -- clear or the enduro var -- amber tinted version they are pushing??
