I don't remember this subject before on this forum, IRT pen making. If a repeat, maybe its time to re confess. I'll start.

In the spring on last year a gentleman came by and expressed interest in a Slimline I had turned in Cocobolo. I proudly presented it to him, and as he twisted it, it literally fell apart in his hands. I quickly retrieved it, explaining this pen was defective (read my workmanship) and I would have to remove it from inventory. He was very gracious and ordered another Slimline in Cocobolo from me, which I presented him the next week. (He's still using it).

I still have the one that fell apart. Faulty glue job in the lower barrel. Embarrassing, but a great lesson learned.

Unfortunately, I have more.

Oops. Should read "spring of last year". Why do I always find my proof reading mistakes after I post the thread??

John, the same thing happened to the first El Grande I turned. Had nothing to do with the glue though. The finial loosened and the threaded coupler popped off! I'm still trying to figure that one out! It was a really nice piece of Macassar Ebony too! I still have the pen. Haven't been able to bring myself to show it again.

I had left my black leather 24 pen case in the back seat of the car for the summer and went to call on a referred customer. Opened the case in front of her and several acrylic pens had cracked from the heat. Lost a good potential retailer with that smooth move. Now I inspect and test each pen before showing them to anyone.

That just happened to me I had made a liberty pencil kit was showing it to the CEO of the hospital when she was looking at it the finial and clip assembly came out. I was so embarressed. She gave it back in pieces and said "Don't think this will work for me."

I was at a high end jewelry store, trying to sell my pens, presented an elgrande and when he went to pull the cap off (its a twist) the pressure fit failed and the insides all came out. After presenting my "hand made" quality construction, he pput it back in my hand and off I went with my tail between my legs. I now glue them and show how to use a twist cap pen before offering it to try.
