I have been reading about EEE and how amazing it is... but i have read some reviews and says that if you touch your bushings it turns black and gunks up your turning... just needed some advise.

It is not the EEE that makes the bushings black, it is that when you are turning you are also turning minute slivers of metal off the bushings. When you put the EEE on and it comes into contact with these shavings, and if you don't wipe off the bushings first, then yes, it will turn the ends of your blanks a dark gray. Not quite black. DAMHIKT

Stay off the bushings as best as possible. Seal the ends of the blanks with a dab of CA before you get to the final dimensions.

I will speak for the other side -- I do not think it is so amazing. I want a finish that is polished without the grit in it.

For me it is like the quick repair at the used car lot -- the ones that last just long enough for the check to clear.

I use it from time to time on projects. It's worked very well on what I've used it on.... Until I left it out in the shop in summer on a 90+ day and it turned into liquid... Was never the same after that.

Ken, I think EEE is nothing more than a paste wax with a very fine grit in it. I use it as a final 'sanding' on some of my harder woods. Then I go through my polishing routine as usual. IMHO it is just a different form of sandpaper.

I have developed a technique where I work from the center of the blank to the outside. That way the black on the bushings does not come in contact with the wood. Also roll the cloth with the back on it from first bushing under so as you work in the other direction it does not come in contact with the surface. Just to be anal on PR blanks I do the same thing as the final polish will also leave black residue on the cloth as you finish the blanks.

You could probably use delrin bushings to avoid the black as well. I even have a set of bushings that I put masking tape over to avoid the shaving issues. Then they eventually got coated with CA.. I end up using those for 'finish' bushings.

EEE is Tripoli in a wax carrier. So its nothing but a polishing compound in wax.

As a finish, it is no better than using MM then putting a wax top coat on, The wax won't last long then its bare wood exposed to the world.

That said, I do use it when I'm polishing my top coat (lacquer or CA).

I use it as a cutting paste, not as a finish on it's own.
It can leave black smudges from cutting into the bushings,
but then so can other paste polishes. I like it.
