I have seen where several people seem to like the EDC pens. I have not seen an EDC in person but I have made and like the Stratus. How do they compare to each other ? Which is the better one? Thanks for your help.

I have made two Stratus pencil kits, and they were fine. I have made 10+ of the EDC kits and I also like them.

The EDC has a larger "shoulder" (OD-ID/2 = shoulder: .435"-.285"/2 = .075")
versus the Stratus (OD-ID/2 = shoulder: .445"-.345"/2 = .050")
(This is not an important concern unless you are segmenting and want more "material" to work with.)

Other specs are very similar, as are the plating options.

Aesthetically, I prefer the EDC. But that is just an opinion. I believe any preference will come down to the appearance each prefers.

Have fun!

I thought EDC's popularity was all about it using the Schmidt click mechanism which is kinda know as the gold standard of mechanisms (e.g. it doesn't quit working if you drop the pen on it's head).... there aren't many pen kits that use this mechanism.

Mark has given his view. . Mine is a little different.

I think that the Duraclick EDC is markedly superior to the Stratus ... even the pricing tells you that.

Mark gave some attention to the shoulder dimension ... to me that is an important feature because I like a bigger diameter pen.

As for plating options, I would say that is an aspect in which the two pen kits are not even comparable because the Duraclick EDC is not offered in any of the plating options in which the Stratus is offered (chrome, gold, gunmetal, and black enamel).
Most of the options for the EDC are, what I would call, raw-metal options: stainless steel, natural aluminum, brass, black anodized aluminum, and a bronze-aluminum (a new finish not available on any other PSI kit). . The fact that these are mostly "raw" metal finishes could, depending on your point of view, make the EDC considerably more desirable than the Stratus.

Another superior feature of the EDC, in my opinion, is the clip: a solid metal, modern looking clip. . The stratus clip, on the other hand is a folded metal clip.

Another majorly superior feature of the EDC is the click mechanism, which is well-recognized as very reliable and quiet. . It is made in Germany (as far as I know) by the Schmidt company, model number SKM-88 on their website.

You pay more for the EDC kit than you do for the Stratus kit for a very good reason ... superiority.

Keith, I really do think that you owe it to yourself to order at least a couple of the EDC and make your own comparison .... I am sure that you will be thoroughly impressed by the EDC in comparison to the Stratus. . If you sell your pens, the price difference is significant. . But so will the level of customer satisfaction be very significant. . For me, just the quietness and smoothness of the EDC click mechanism is a totally winning feature, compared to every other click pen kit on the market.

Some people don't like one aspect of the EDC, namely that the external "color" of the click mechanism is not well-matched to the rest of the kit parts, except for the stainless steel version of the pen kit. . For me, this is a very minor issue. . In the case of the stainless steel version the match is very good. . Frankly, among the various EDC options, I actually prefer the stainless steel version, even though it is the most expensive.

Remember that you are getting a quality click mechanism from a longstanding well-respected German company.

Thanks for all the information. I like the click mechanism on the stratus so sounds like I should really like the EDC. Thanks for all the helpful information.
