Apologies if you were bidding against me. I had a customer (friend) request for a special pen. Stabilized and dyed blue burl of outstanding quality is hard to find.

Last time I got that request, I bought a bunch of crap blanks from retail vendors and still did not get the quality I want. Since I am making a Christmas present, I put in a very large proxy bid, I am embarrassed.

So you are who I was bidding against? Oh wait, you're not my friend:tongue:

Am I the only one that buys blanks on ebay? I can't count the number of auctions I have lost. The auction a few days ago, was a "must have".

Hope everyone does a good turn this weekend. Maybe make a few pens too.

I have bought a few, and on occassion bid on them a lot. I try to get a steal on some high end blanks, but seem to lose them.

ebay buying is just like anywhere else, just make sure you don't get caught up in a frenzy...put in what they're worth to you and hope for the best! There are some sellers with great stuff, and some sellers with a great amount of stuff....

I see an auction I like. I bid my final price and let it roll. Many times I won't even look at it again until I get the "You have won/lost" email from ebay. (I've honestly forgotten about a few until I received an invoice )

I don't get into the sniping any more to try and save a few bucks.

I'm the same way. I hardly ever see the end of an auction anymore. Now I look at something, and if I want it, I'll put a bid in for the most I'd be willing to spend. If I win, great, but if not, then I won't regret it later.

I used to get caught up in last second bidding, but that's when I'd end up with something that I paid too much for. Sometimes it might take awhile, but if you're patient, you'll find what you want at the right price.

I don't do the last second bids, because usually that is more than I am willing to pay to begin with. I go through phases where I put a $15 bid on half a dozen amboyona burl pen blanks, knowing I will not get them, but hope there is a chance.

I was into listening to the police scanner awhile back (before they went digital). so I bid on an analog scanner. I got out bidded, but I really wanted it. So I watched it when it got close to the end and upted my bid. I won it!!

I just don't like or do auctions, if I'm buying something I look for what I want and when I find it I buy it. If there are a few identical items with some price variations from different sellers, I look at the one I see is most secure, if is the most expensive, I don't really care, and every time I do differently, I get burnt.

Same for for sales, I don't do auctions, if I want to give stuff away, I don't need to put it on eBay or elsewhere, I simply give it to who I want to otherwise, if I have something for sale, I mark the product with what I think/believe is fair or I'm satisfied with, if it sell it sell it it don't, no big deal...!

Auctions and auction tricks do disgust me, pretty bad so, the better way to not be a target, is to keep out of it, problem solved...!:biggrin:

OK so, everyone is different, well such is life...!

Cheers
George
