Just wondering if anyone has purchased either of the portable dust collectors from PSI? One is the economy model with a 660 CFM, the other is the more expensive model and has a 850 CFM. There's about $100 difference in the two models. I'd appreciate any constructive PROS or CONS as I'm anticipating purchasing one of these. Thanks for sharing.

I have no recommendation other than bigger is better overall. That and I'm very happy to see that they now come with 1 micron bags!
Thanks for the "solo" response. Apparently these are not really best sellers or something else.
By the way, do you mind if I ask how you get such great photos of your pens???? I'm new to turning and would like to photo some of the pens I make. Is there a sort of "easy method" that would produce at least acceptable results???

I'm not sure why no-one else has responded yet. I would guess that many on here (like me) with dust collectors have full size ones (or none at all), so its possible that they haven't been seen yet.
As for pictures - was that directed to me or general people? If general, I'd suggest checking out the photography section of the board. If me specifically - I'd be happy to tell you about my pictures but I've done different methods so if there is one specifically I can tell you how I did it.
I've taken pictures with an iphone, with a pocket camera, and with an SLR - so there is lots of possibilities.

Thanks for the welcome. And yes, the pics question was for you specifically. I'm not a photographer but do own a decent Sony digital camera. I tried to take some shots of some pens that turned out o.k. but not great and certainly not close enough to display any details and the like. Also, color was not that good, especially on the purple acrylic. I would simply like to have some pictorial log of some of the pens I've made as people occasionally request to see these. Unfortunately I haven't amassed any on-hand quantity since I make them and give/sell them immediately. Thanks for any suggestions, ideas, advice, references.
Some of the stuff you need to factor in; how big a space you a filtering, anything other than pens, any material other than wood/PR used in your space, is window mounting an option? Do you have any respiratory issues?
I use a Jet 1200 cfm that really does a great job. You can find them used on CL from time to time. In the case of filtration, and KNOWING that you use something like a Trend or MSA approved respirator, less is not a good thing.

When it comes to dust collection and filtration equipment the bigger the better is right on. Also, the finer the bag or filters the better. It is the tiny airborn particles that give us respiratory problems.

Just FYI, purple doesn't photo well. The color temp of that color is outside most camera's sensor range. So, the camera will take it as blue. You have to adjust purple in post production.

I have had the 850 CFM model for the past 1.5 years or so that I use in the basement with a smaller (Jet 1220) lathe. I can't compare it with the smaller version but it definitely keeps the dust down, even when power sanding. No complaints about ambient dust from my spouse, either...

PSI Tempest vs. Clear Vue? Any opinions?
I'm slowly building a very small wood shop. Will have probably 2-3 tools, mostly using a lathe. I think I will do my tablesaw and scroll saw work outside.

I have something similar to this 1 1/2HP “Dustroyer” Dust Collector w/ 1 Micron Canister Filter & Collection Bags at Penn State Industries.
It's 1250CFM and quite compared to a shop vac. Would not go back.

I have had this one for many years.. Hmm 18 years now. I have a 4" hose directly behind the blank and it gets almost all the shavings, and all the sanding dust!

The only down side is that I have to empty and clean the bag. I have thought about a cyclone attachment. There is a screen in the intake port to keep large pieces out of the impeller. It tends to clog up with ribbons when doing acrylics.
It is much more important to get bags with the best filtering ability. If you will be sanding large items, look for a box hepa filter.
