Think it's time to buy another lens. So how many quill pens do you think I can make from this flock? :)

These are non-migratory and that one may very well be Chinese, I was told by the locals it was a mix/hybrid with the white and Canadian. Either way it's the ring leader of that bunch.

Banded? What do you mean banded?

non-migratory Canadian geese are turning up as far north as the Pocono Mts in PA. We have tons of them here in DE but we still get huge flocks of the migratory ones - Snow geese in particular seem to like to stop over here at time they will turn a 40 acre field totally white.

Anyone reading this thread, please use caution. It is against the law to collect even the discarded feathers from migratory foul. I'll refrain from saying you could run a-foul of the law.

The photos are very nice and clear. Thanks for posting them.

Looks like that is a well fertilized section of ground. Goose goo makes for slippery walking, and running when they chase you.

They come over infrequently and never stay long. They start at my neighbors yard and work down to my other side neighbor then go back to the lake. These are non migratory. They stay here 24/7.

If they are considered domesticated - you can use the feathers. That is how flytyers manage to get hackles from some game birds for fly tying.

We issue a migratory bird stamp that is required for all migratory bird hunting. Then depending on where you live there is an open season. In New York it was usually in October. Here in Delaware I'm not sure, since there are so many Canada Geese here all year long they could hold it anytime (I suspect it is in the fall though).

So my lawn mower is illegal since it collects feathers, etc? Same with the side walk cleaner they use on the trail around the lake.
No your lawn mower is in the clear because it is not actually possessing the feathers (except for the possibility of those getting caught in that mat of grass under the mower deck) it, is simply redistributing them as if they were tax dollars.

Ah cool analogy. Tax dollars is to distribution as lawn mowers is to grass clippings. The irony here is they both deal with HUGE amounts of waste! :)

Sorry if my humor cant be seen but I have been dying with laughter on this one.

Looks like it, in front of the eyes is a white strip, I re-checked both my photo's and they do have the white strip. Also looking up the chinese and swan goose they do look very much alike. Worth noting to is interbreeding with swan goose and canadian good yields the same type patterns.

this is from the front, took this october 2010

this one is interesting, note the white ones. We had some idiot driver hit one of these and there was some freaky events happen on that, the white female goose got hit and was half dead, the male walked into the street, jumped on the back and started mating with it, when he was done the goose was dead, neighbor came out with a shovel and put it on the bank.

this one is another white, note the big honker on the head and the above photo it's missing.
