Well I would have to say the Jet JDP-17MF. The main reason I said this one is because you limited it to $500. Personaly the Powermatic 18" is what I want. I have the Jet 17" and it gets a work out. One of the things that we use it for is basically a rosette. We run several hundred of them in oak and walnut a month. The drill has held up well.

I have the Jet JDP-15MF and really like it. Amazon has it for $449.99 with free shipping if you are a Prime member, I believe you can get a free trial Prime membership.

+1 for the Jet

Thanks all I will look at the Jet. I did think about the Powermatic but it got a'lot of bad reviews. What about Delta any thoughts? "anyone" could'nt resist from "ferris Bueller"

I have a Rikon 13" mounted on a moveable stand so it is like a floor model. I have had it for 3 years and it gets a work out and works really well with no problems. I can change it's speeds easily. I have found the Rikon tools to be very dependable and backed by great customer service.
