About a month ago I asked about measuring the depth of a drill bit with a drill press.

So after thinking about it I came up with these: see picture. I got a 2" hose clamp to tighten on the quill. I found a 90 degree angle iron light weight it was a drapery rod Its about 1/16 thick. and drill a 1/4 inch hole in it. Placed a 6" long bolt and secuited it with a 1/4 nut. About 1inch above this nut I added two 1/4 nuts to the long shafted bolt.

After the bolt was on the angle iron I secured the angle iron with the hose clamp. I then CA glued a second 90angle iron to the drill press housing.

I adjusted the steel measuring tape aligning the 90 bracket and the measuring to zero. I then CA glued a steel measuring tape to the two 1/4 bolts ( You will not see these in the photo.) You do see the steel tape. I had every thing in the shop except the 2" hose clamp. for a project cost of $ 1.50 + tax.

There is a movable black marker on the steel tape measurer that allows me to adjust the depth of the drill depth.

Hope this idea can help others see you ! Bill Daniels
