I have a 15 inch craftsman drill press. So far the machine has been great, but...

The table is square to the bit in both dimensions and locks down tight. However, the table will move right and left -- kind of "around" the axis of the pole. This is because the raise/lower track for the the table is flexible.

This generally isn't a big deal for a single hole, but it's quite annoying when trying to do multiple holes in a single piece or drilling lots of pen blanks.

How do I keep the table from moving like this? Is this supposed to happen? This may sound like a silly question, as common sense tells me it should not move. But, I have compared it to the floor model in the store, and it too moved. I have the in home service plan and plan to call and have this fixed, but didn't want to sound like a moron if it was standard with drill presses.

Thanks in advance!

As long as the lever to tighten the table base to coloum is tight, it should not move at all. Nothing on the table or drill head should move except the quill once everything is tightened down. Unless your missing something, there is probably an issue.

The track is just to move the table up and down, it should not be involved in locking the table and keeping it from moving. What keeps it from moving is the lever that tightens the back of the collar around the column. If that screw/lever is not causing the table to grip the column tightly enough to be completely solid in all directions, it may be either broken or just out of adjustment. a couple of pictures or maybe a model number might help identify the culprit.
