Yesterday I was drilling some wood blanks, and when I went to sharpen the drill bit, I decided on a lark to try a steeper rake angle. I went two notches towards the PLUS end for the Drill Doctor setup.

Wow, what a difference! It cut way faster and smoother for me. And cooler, I think - or it could just be that I was able to drill much faster so there was less time to build up heat.
 
Many years ago when I worked in the machinist we used to sharpen bits to different angles depending on the material we were drilling. Be careful though you can make a drill go over or under size as well.
