Don't try to catch a falling MAPP gas torch!

I was using my MAPP gas torch to start some mesquite and hickory chunks to smoke some salmon. When done, I set it down and was not paying attention and it started to fall over. Instinctively, I reached down and caught it right by the tip of the torch where the flame comes out! BTW, MAPP gas burns at about 5,300 F. so who knows how hot the actual tip was but it sure did a number on my finger! Fortunately, it is only a second degree burn and though it was very painful at the time (last night) it does not hurt now! The pic shows the blister, not actually burned skin!

Ouch!!! Hate those instincts sometimes... They are great for catching some things, but hot and/or sharp items are bad!

Glad it wasn't worse Curtis. Burns are the most painfull injuries going. Bet that had a Texas size hurt for the first 10 minutes. Not that a real Texan would ever admit to it. What a way to celebrate the new year.

I'd like to humbly add: Also don't try to pick up an already burning smoke bomb to throw at somebody. Had the perfect imprint of the flame on my thumb and forefinger for a few years. Kinda sad the scar isn't there anymore.

Curtis Sorry about the owie, been a good week for silly things like that, I know when I tried catching a cartwheeling Woodchuck even as I reached for it I was thinking "you dumb a#$" After catching it by the end I realized that I was dumber than I thought I was:hypnotized::tongue:

That made my hand hurt, just looking at the pictures...

Did something similar when in high school... back when we still rode dinosaurs to school and the school house was a cave... LOL.... we had a ceramic bunsen burner stand that the burner slid sideways and was actually burning against inside of the stand... I reached over, picked up the stand, and heard the meat sizzle on my hand as it fried and the stand slid through my fingers... after about 55 years since school, I still can feel that hot ceramic burn my hand... fortunately no permanent damage.
