My wife gave me a DMT Deluxe Aligner for my birthday last year. About a month ago, the little threaded insert that holds the pivot crew pulled loose from the plastic clamp. About a week ago, I finally got around to emailing DMT to ask if I should just epoxy it back, or send it in and have them fix it. Today, I got a brand new clamp assembly in the mail.

Even better, they threw in a bonus; one of their credit-card size Dia-Sharp Extra Fine hones. This hone is perfect for touching up the skew while working acrylics. I keep a few rare-earth magnets around for making fridge magnets from wood scraps, so I can just stick this to the front of the lathe, and any time the skew isn't cutting as smoothly as it should, a few strokes on the hone puts it right back in action.

I like the Aligner system, because the hones in it can be used separately for things that the clamp won't work on, and they don't get dished out through moderate use like regular stones do. The Dia-Sharp line is better for pointy things like skews, but the standard line will work for chisels and such with the right technique.
