Disc Grinding Table for a Lathe

I saw an advertisement for a drill power lathe which had a table that fit into the tool rest post holder. It did not have a miter slot in it, however, I was thinking that it would be easy to make something similar to sand pen blanks before turning. You would need a piece of something flat for the top and a piece of round stock that would fit in the post holder of the tool rest. Then you could either add a miter track from one of the wood working stores or you could just cut a 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch slot parallel to the edge and then create a miter gauge that you could hold you blank against. Has anyone else seen something like that?

My suggestion would be to go to Harbor Freight and buy the 10" table top disk sander when it is on sale and use the 20% off coupon. This unit is designed to give you everything you want and than some, take up little room, and have enough power to do both woods and metals at a great price. A drill is not designed to run a lathe or for disc sanding !! Jim S

I agree. I own this large disk sander and it works great. I use a Rick Herrel's jig and transfer punch held against the miter gauge to square blanks. It works quickly and hooks up to my dust collector.
