I had an issue with this pen and the wood cracking. Needless to say, I need to replace it. However, I cannot get the bottom insert of the cap to come out. Any suggestions?
I am not one to give advice on this. But I have tried it. I can tell you what won't work... The insert is plastic. I am usually very nervous doing the assembly since there is so much friction. I have tried once or twice to remove it using a transfer punch. I ended up damaging the plastic. In my case I had nice bodies I wanted to keep, ended up buying kits to scavenge parts from.
I've only disassembled rollerballs with the plastic insert because of blank issues where I had no intention of keeping the turned barrel. That being said I carefully sand down the barrel until almost through the brass tube, wiggling back and forth until the brass tube starts breaking and it will pull out. You'll obviously need a new tube, but the pen parts will be reusable to make a new barrel. Just be careful about hitting any exposed part while sanding. I use a stand up belt sander that has a 1 inch belt.
Black Plastic Center Band Insert for the full size Emperor and Majestic. This is a replacement part for stripped plastic threads. Will fit the full Emperor and Majestic - the ones with the square threads. Great way to save an expensive kit! Sold per each or as a 10 pack
I have been successful and my method start with Vaseline on that black insert at all times when using that type kit. I knock the cap end off. I screw the nib back on and then just punch the whole thing out. They usually slide out easily because I had used the lubricant in the first place. Before I even press that part in I check to see how tight it is and may hit with some 220 grit sandpaper. These are things you learn from having to fix the oops. I use a wood dowel when hammering on the nib so not to deform or scratch it.
