difference in drill bit

Berea and BB both say to use a "O" size drill bit for the European. Hut says to use a 21/64" bit. The difference is about a tenth of an inch. Is this enough to worry about, or well within the range of space that pol glue will fill?

12/1000" is a little loose, but is very workable if you use polyurethane glue. I've done it more than a few times without problem.
 
"O" bit is .318
21/64 is .326
8mm is .315
5/16 is .312

I usually use a 5/16" with all the kits that require a 0 bit... If you have a 8mm bit even better... but personally I think 21/64 is a little to large...
 
In my trade, .012 is a mile and a half[:D] I use an 'O'. Sometimes I have to 're-run' the bit in after drilling. I do this just holding the blank in hand and running it back over the drill bit.

How do you ream out the undersized hole?
 
Never had to... the bit fits for me... might be my bit, but it works..
The perfume applicator calls for the 8mm bit and the DT Euro pens call for the 0 bit, I use the 5/16 on both, and use epoxy to glue the blanks..
 
If you go to BB's web page and click on drill bits there is a drill size chart there that you can copy. I have found it very helpful....

An "O" bit is actually 0.3160".

And

A 21/64 bit is actually 0.3281.

Just to put this in perspective, I took a few measurements off a slimline kit that was handy. If you do a standard straight profile, the OD of the pen is about 0.330". With a 7 mm hole(0.2756") in the barrel, the wood is about 0.68 mm thick or 0.027". If you drill a hole that is oversized by 0.012", that reduces the wood thickness by 0.006" or 22% in our example.......pretty big difference!!! I agree with Lou that 12 thou over might be "workable"; but I also agree with Tom that it is more that I would be comfortable with!!!

???I'M CONFUSED???

Since you don't have any of those drill bits and since the "O" drill is the recommended size, why not buy it??
