About two weeks ago I bought a new Titan Chuck made by Teknatool. This was not really by choise but my Super Nova ll had broken and I was forced to replace it.
I have been doing some shopping around looking for the BIGGEST set of jaws I could find. They are called 5 inch jaws and run almost a hundred dollors.
Now for the --did you know part. Teknatool has a new plant in China.
I received a sale catalog in the mail yesterday from a company that I buy tools from and the have a sale going on for all Teknatools which I thought was going to work out well for me.
Made a quick phone call and found out that they are dropping Teknatool until they see how the china thing is going to work out and of course they did not have the jaws I wanted in stock
I wander how much affect this will have on the line of products and I sure wish I had waiting before buying the Titan chuck.

I think this have been going on for a while now...even some Nova lathe components have been made in China.

I think Chrales (Tangboy) mentioned this on another forum that Teknatool have been buying/manufacturing components from China but not shipping them directly to the US. Now they are confident enough about the quality that they will ship directly from China to US. Thus they have to come and say that (they are required to say it I think)

That is what I recall reading last year....and I may be mistaken.
 
I guess it will depend on the company they choose. I have 2 super nova's and a titan that in my opinion could use some refining in the machining process. It is possible that in the end their quality and overall fit will improve. On the other hand they may wind up on sale at your local HF.
 
This will be interesting to watch unfold---I was really kinda surprized that they would make a move to China but
like Jim said---there is room for improvement in the product.
