Did I Get a Deal?

I just bought a Jet jwl 1236 variable speed 550 - 3000 rpm from a local cop on CraigsList for $300, delivered to my house. He bought it from Rockler 8 years ago, turned 5 spindles on it and decided he wasn't cut out for turning. It came with an 8 piece Sorbey tool set, as well. It still has the Rockler comparison sticker on it.

I think so - if near new condition + the tool set makes it even better.

Only down side I see is that the low end speed is a bit fast.

Now if it came with a few chucks - one heck of a deal.

The 1236 is a good lathe, just make sure you balance you pieces as well as possible before turning it on, 500 RPM with a piece that is out of balance gets quite scary and sometimes you can slip chasing the lathe around the shop!!

Good Deal

I think you made a good, especially with the tools. I bought a used one off of craigslist for $275 with no tools and had to drive an hour to go pick it up. I like mine but would like a bigger lathe maybe one day.
