Not long ago I bought some dental bits here on IAP for use in carving blanks for infill. I mentioned it to my dentist and she gave me a whole little bag of about 20 different size and shape dental bits. They had all been used, but wood is softer than teeth, and they are plenty sharp for what I am doing. Most are carbide, some are diamond.
Ask your dentist to save his/her old bits for you.
