I have been considering the Delta 17-950L as a possible purchase, and according to various online reviews, it has a spindle lock, yet when I looked at one on the floor at Lowes, I could not find one. In the users manual, I see no mention of a spindle lock. Does anyone have one and can comment?

A spindle lock can be very handy. Mine gets used most often as a third hand when I am setting up and measuring depth of hole, etc. But, they have other uses also.
The one in the store may not have the thumbscrew installed. Small items have a way of walking away in stores. Ask one of their experts to show you the owners manual.

I guess I made a typo, I meant Quill Lock, but Frank figured out what I meant despite my confusing wording. They had the manual sitting on the table and there was no mention of a Quill Lock in it.

It's hard to find folks who know details like that in my local Lowes, I think I will send an e-mail to DeltaPorterCable

Try to find a Steel City dirll press you wont be sorry. I had one of the Deltas in my production shop and they were junk didnt even hold up 6 month before the quill had a great deal of slop in it. It didnt even hold up as well as the cheap old drill press I bought from a street vendor and ran everyday for over 10 years.
