What kind of wood makes the best deer grunt?

I would think a baseball bat would make even the best deer grunt . But I would never encourage or recommend such activity as it would be bad for the deer and the batter.

I make most of mine out of walnut and cedar. In my opinion these are the 2 best woods to make grunt calls.

i use goncola alves. Somebody told me that's what they use to make bows for the bow hunters. Don't know if that's true or not, but I've have good luck with them.

I made a friend one out of Bois D Arc, horse apple or ossage, that was cut off of his ranch and it helped his son bag his first buck.

What kind of wood makes the best deer grunt?

I use Hickory or Ironwood.

Some depends on how long you're going to make the "horn" too.

I like heavy dense woods, I think they put out a better sound.
