i've just turned some antler and was wondering what's the best finish for it or do you leave natural, which don't seem right. It seems like it should hace something on it , i was thinking CA, but wasn't sure so i thought i'd better ask before i proceed. Thanks for anyone that can help on this, i know there are alot of you that work with this, any help is greatly appreciated.

I do a thick CA finish on it. God only knows what it's gonna encounter once its finished.

You will most likely get mixed answers on this question. Some people like to leave them natural and others use a CA finish. I personally put a CA finish on the ones I make.

Well, with 4 out of 4 using CA i think i'll go with it. I greatly appreciate the post.

I don't usually put anything more than a HUT plastic polish on it, if it is the natural bone of the antler... if there is marrow showing, I put a CA finish on it to seal and solidify the marrow.

I've done ca and no ca. i personly like the ca. thick ca

I pretty much do the same as Chuck. I sand with 400 grit, polish with Hut crystal and then I put on at least 4 coats of CA. The polish gives it a nice shine.

I used Truoil on one, holding up as far as I know.

Thanks for all the tips, i've just about got one ready. I done a CA finish, i'll post it tomorrow so i can get some comments. I didn't get a real high gloss, but i think it looks pretty good anyway, but i'm always open to tips.
