My old faithful delta ap400 dc laid down on me last week, and I got around to pulling it out and looking at it. It would just buzz when turned on, but would start if I spun the impeller before I hit the switch. Opened up the control housing on the motor and found this lovely sight. Googled the delta part number and came up with prices from 19.99 and up for a simple fifty microfarad motor start cap! You gotta be kidding me. Now I just gotta figure if there is a place that carries one locally close enough to not burn the shipping cost in gas to go get it.
But anyway, in case anybody runs into this type of problem with most single speed, ac motors where it will run but not start, a cap is usually the culprit, and lots cheaper than a new motor or a new tool.
