I was tapping a bit of stainless today and when withdrawing the tap from the hole it must have chipped a tooth and it welded itself in one of the threads. Aaargh !!
I had no choice to but continue unscrewing the tap, but I knew that it would be ripping apart the threads in the stainless.:frown:
Anyway....it was a M10 x 0.75 and I don't have a spare. I tried to pick and punch the booger out but it wouldn't budge..
So quick fix was to chuck it up and mount the dremel.....:wink:
It worked a charm and now slices through stainless like a hot knife through butter.
Considering that the first couple of full threads on a tap do 95% of the work, this is a good solution to put life back into old dull taps. .
It did take a couple of goes before I figured that only the little carborundum disks would grind it..
Don't chuck out your old taps too soon!!:biggrin:
