I did not know you were doing this, otherwise I could have told you that would happen. The partial dye effect is pretty eye catching though. I sometimes do what you are saying, but what I do is I cut the wood to blank size. I then scroll some wavy channels into it here and there. Then I soak the wood in the dye solution but don't bother with the pot, it won't help much using pressure, only a vacuum will help. So I just toss the blank in a jar and let it sit a few weeks. Then I pull it out and let it dry, assisted drying if you want or just be patient for a few months..whatever. Then I cast the blank in a resin, like worthless wood. You end up with a blank where you have the natural color of the wood, when you see close to a cut line there is a transition from light to dark of the color you dyed, about 1/32 or more depends on the wood type, sometimes I get an 1/8 of penetration and then the colored plastic. People wonder <customers>, how it looks that way, that I was able to dye just the edges.
