I think Bill threw this cross cut cocobolo in just to screw me up. :D
I did, catch a snag at the tail, so it got a band.:)
The other is a BOW.
I tried that Masters spary from CSU on these. I'll try anything that's
on sale. I sanded back the gloss a touch, I also used the sandpaper
they had on special and highly recomend it, good stuff.
Thanks for looking.

Beautiful stuff as always, Anthony. I haven't tried cross cut blanks but, looking at this pen, I might just have to give it a whirl. Nice save with the band, too! I'm a die hard Masters fan so I like your selection of finishes on these ;)

OK let's hear about the Masters finish... have not used it, like what I see there and am always on the look out for a better and/or easier way to do things... Inquiring minds want to know...

Tom, I think we should refer to NIls for this, I am sure he has allot more experience with this stuff than me.
But it definately will be a hard lasting finish!
I am not that proficient with sprays. I'm a brush man myself.
I did two caots on these with some sanding in between.
The final product came out with a glass like finish.
A touch to glossy for me, so I hit them with 6000 MM
to cut back the gloss a touch. I can see if you get the spray down
right on the first coat, it could be a faster finish that is lasting,
It is worth a try at the sale price.

Anthony

You were supposed to use the blocks I sent to practice cross-cut grain on first!![:D]

Looks fantastic with the band. Adds more character. Is that spray a lacquer? I haven't tried it yet as I still dip.

Hi Anthony,

How long does it take to dry before you can sand?

The pens look incredible!!

Looking good, Anthony! Nice job on covering a boo-boo. I just tried turning a crosscut piece of laminated bamboo...and blew out both blanks...well beyond recovery using any technique I've seen... [xx(] I did manage, however, to save the tubes. [;)] The second one wasn't as bad as the first, so I'm planning to give it another try.

It is a lacquer base finish. Was just informed comes in satin or gloss.
Jim, it dries to the touch in less than an hour, I waited about 4 hours
before sanding. I sanded by hand vs the lathe. I got a pretty comfy roller rocking
chair in my shop, and I can hand sand a dozen barrels in less time then putting
them and taking them off a mandrell. I would just lightly sand 600 / 3200 mm / 6000 mm

Nice save on the Tubes Bill! That bamboo can be tricky.

Fleabit, why should that OOPS strike you as unussual [:D]
Remember the UGLY Pen Contest? I had the largest supply of
ugly pen parts [:D] Tried to even sell some, had no takers [:D]

Jeff, I like this kit, easy to make ,has nice trim,(wish they would have put a different looking clip on it.) Nice size roller ball, Light weight, cap does not post. Available in Platinum and 10K finish.
