Found an ad on local CL for turning blanks. Had him send me a few pics and we made a deal. Ended up getting about $450 worth of hardwood turning blanks for $175. Got what is listed below plus a couple other large blanks with no labels. I only turn pens and am hesitant to break down such nice large blanks into pen size but a man's got to do what a man's got to do!

You did very well there. The larger turning blanks is where the money is. I see you have some pink ivory pen blanks on the list. Just to warn you that is one of those prone to crack woods. Can be some nice color though. OK get busy and turn something.

There's some nice sized chunks of really nice woods in that list! Nice score.

You didn't ask but if it was me I wouldn't cut them up, I'd either keep them or trade them. You could get some really nice burl blanks in trade and although you said you only turn pens I predict that will change one day as you get deeper into the vortex! (insert evil laugh here:biggrin:)

More important......as is said around here....no pics=didn't happen!

Nice score! Congrats

I wouldn't cut them up either - pen blanks in any of those woods are easy to come by & one day you will wish you had some nice billets like that - bottle stoppers, calls, ornaments -- so many things to turn.

Alright. Alright! Lol Enough of you have reaffirmed my belief that chopping the big blanks up is not a great choice. Thinking I may try the trade option on some of them. And save some.

I cut up blocks for pen blanks but only as I need them. If pen blanks is what you need, cut them up after considering values. When you need them. Not just because. :-)
