The avian flu is really spreading here in Nebraska. It has not only impacted large producers here in Nebraska and in our bordering states, it is now starting to hit small producers and local farmers too. In the past few months more than 22 million birds have either died or have had to be destroyed.

For us non-chickens, it means higher prices for both poultry and eggs. We haven't experienced any shortages yet, but the price of chicken locally has gone up nearly 50% in the past 3 days.

Oh yea this is huge and could not come at a worse time. People do not realize how much that will effect groceries and food. We are living through that perfect storm. Pandemic to war to shortages because of them. Then there is the gouging. Need to lock the shop door and keep making pens.😀

It wiped out one large producer here in Wisconsin. They had to destroy 3 million layers and they are now saying it is our wild bird population as well. Fingers crossed it doesn't get into my small flock of layers.

Here too. Always a problem when a single species are kept close. Trees have that problem too. Like elm tree bordered boulevards. I remember when the Texas leaf corn blight was a problem for our corn crops. They've found covid in mink I believe and think it came across from animals to start with. Mt. St. Helen's blew and viruses came out they've never seen before. Mother Nature Rules and she doesn't care what you or I think.

Chestnut trees too. Chestnut is some beautiful wood. Tough to come by these days.

Beautiful thing about pens is to be alone in the shop. I'm missing my pool game. Not too interested in being in the same room with others.

My pool table is covered with things I had to move for the guys when they were working down there. Someday I will break the stick out again. It has been awhile.

On my 18th birthday my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I bought a brand new house. We bought a pool table for the basement. Oh man the beer we drank down there playing pool all night!

Saw a post on Reddit. "My 5 year old commented that chicken can mean either an animal or a food." About to make a horrifying discovery!o_O

PS. There is a huge chicken farm hear our Radio Control Model Flying Field. We impress on our members. "Do not go onto the chicken farm. If you lose a plane over there, drive around to their office and ask nicely if they can retrieve it for you."
