Does anyone use a collect chuck & 1/4" collect to hold the pen mandrel for turning? Is it any better than using the pen mandrel mounted on the morse taper? just wondering, Joe

I use the beall.
I usually turn one half at a time and it seems better than the adjustable mandrels. I usually have not had much problem with the regular mandrel but I find that the shorter length of working on one half at a time decreases the chances of flex on the mandrel.

I do the same as Mike. Occasionally I still turn both halves at the same time, but typically that's only when doing a Slimline without the center band.
