Our epic snow event here in mid Michigan was a little over hyped but I'm definitely glad the 50 mile per hour winds from yesterday are gone.

Likewise here in Northern Illinois. The news was saying it was going to be "The Storm of a Generation", and a "Bomb-Cyclone".

Meh. We got about 2" of snow. It IS pretty cold, with 30mph winds and Wind Chills about -28F. A good day to work in my shop.

Merry Christmas.

Actually they said similar here in NJ. We got the rain as predicted but the cold snap happened so fast and last night it got to 5 degrees with wind chill in teens. Standing water turned into ice rinks in a hurry. The truck doors froze solid. Thankful I have remote start and the heat from inside did warm enough to get doors open without ripping gaskets off. Back garage door is still frozen shut but with a little sun on it today it should be fine. We have not had this cold spell in a long time especially this early. Feb yes but not Dec. My new furnace I had put in this summer is getting a true workout.

I think I jinxed us. The winds are picking back up, not quite as bad as yesterday, but they are howling again.

OK I'll throw my cold hat in the ring. Yesterday morning -24 degrees, not wind chill, actual temperature. Today heading for mid 40's.

Didn't get falling snow but the wind driven drifts had both I90 & I29 closed off/on from Rapid City to Sioux Falls for a couple of days, no travel advisary on all other roads statewide. Snow plows stopped yesterday @ 1:30 due to conditions. Quite a few tickets given for roadclosure violations.

At least it has warmed up to -5 F today

We had the cold for a couple of days there. Finally topped 0F yesterday, and is climbing fast now. We hit -21F at the coldest, with windchill at -55! I have never seen that kind of cold here. The wind was mostly just random gusts, but even without the wind, -21 really bites.

Coldest I can recall was -14F from around 7 or 8 years ago. This time around, inside at least, it wasn't too bad, as I had my furnace replaced a number of years ago. The new one is incredibly efficient, and kept the house warm without having to run 100% of the time. When it hit -14 in that prior year, I remember my heater running non-stop, and mostly just blowing cold air!!

I do penturning and woodworking outside, under the open sky. I roll my tools out of the garage to work. Really.

According to the thermometer, the current outside temperature is 72 F (22 C). The sun is shining. Merry Christmas!
