Turning this was much like turning corn cob,no blow outs but the next one will be stabilized.
Ilikewood suggested long grain but I went the hard way.

That's a beauty. I'm glad you turned it the short grain way. I've turned palm with the grain running long and it is not nearly as dramatic.

WENT AGAINST MY SUGGESTION??? You showed your master turning skills to a "T". Excellent job Eagle as you turned one of the tougher ways to do something. Cross cut palm has to be one of the hardest turning jobs to do and you did it very well.

Ilikewood-
I tried to envision it long grain and it seemed like it would berather boring.
It was an attempt made with much trepidation.
I used a rounded skew to rough it and shape it,also an angled skew.
The diamond stone never left my side.
I did use thin CA for stabilization.
There were a few tear outs that did not effect the final product.
I will drill and stabilize the next one.
As far as turning, this pen took much longer than any other I've done.
I think my first corn cob was easier and faster.
Thanks for the turning tips
Now,which kind of palm is it,anyone know?

It does look like Coconut palm or possibly a red palm as they can be similar in appearance. It is easier to tell on the raw wood than a finished pen. Definitely not black palm.

Lets cut to the chase and send me my certification.[:D]
