I was wondering if anyone new of someone who can supply me with the Closed End pen mandrels for the Barron , both the top and bottom as well as the bushings. I am aware that Arrizona Silhoute make them but they dont post outside the USA. Any help would be greatful.
Cheers Gerry

Gerry, if you want buy them and have them shipped to me and I'll re-post them to you. If you do PM me for my address and give me yours.. Roy

Closed end pens are possible without purchasing special tooling. They can be made using standard mandrels and bushings. Take a look at the closed end pen articles at http;//www.RedRiverPens.com/articles if interested. There are also more articles in the IAP library. The closed end pen mandrels are nice but not necessary.
Do a good turn daily!

They can be made with standard mandrels, but they are super duper easy to make with those special closed end mandrels.

In thread from last week, someone posted that they used punches with a bit of tape on them for closed end mangrels. They just choose a punch that just fits the tube and wrap them once with masking tape so the tube fit snugly on them. I've heard of people using small rubber bands, instead of tape, but I've never tried it.

I have used an O ring and a HF punch, works.. Carl

25/64 and 10 mm ???

The Arizona Silouette Baron closed end mandrel, 25/64 is the same as 10 mm so can it be used for Cigar pens as well? Never turned one and looking to move into the big leagues like you guys.

There are two measurements to consider with these mandrels. The interior diameter of the tubes and the exterior dimensions of the pen fittings. If the tube matches, but the fittings are different, then the mandrel could still be used, but the slide-on bushing would not. Instead, you would simply use a caliper to ensure that you turn your material down to the correct size (or you could turn a new bushing out of corian or whatever).

I just posted this on another thread a few min ago. I hope it help ya'll in this one...

I found an easy way to do the closed-end on the Jr. Gents. I use a mandrel with a drill chuck to hold it, and use a spacer from the tip of the chuck to the first bushing then add the squaring tool sleeve to the end of the mandrel (it should catch on the threads and hold tight enough to do the job. It is long enough to still be in the brass tube when you put your blank on and pushed up against the front bushing. use the tail stock to keep the whole thing straight.

I'm working on a doc for the library, just haven't had time to finish it yet. Hopefully this is clear enough.

One really good thing using this method, If you already have the squaring sleeve for the pen then you have the right size mandrel...
