Hi all, I would just like to think that there are no others on IAP dumb enough to do what I just did. Here is my stupid thing for this week, I hope.
I was turning small things and parting them from a larger block. As I have done times before, I reached across the lathe with my left arm to catch the cut off. This time the lathe was off and I rested my arm on the headstock cover while reaching for the switch. I did not discover that my forearm was also resting on the chuck until it strted to rotate. It is a good thing that I have developed fairly quick reflexes and moved my arm before any damage other than a few pulled hairs was done. It sure does not take long to inspect a turning chuck with your arm:redface:. I am just glad I was wearing short sleevs. It could have been much worse. I just hope I manage to learn from this morning.
Please, Please do not let me down and admit to anything so dumb, stupid, forgetful, ect, take your pick. I have come to believe that you all are way above something of this caliber.:biggrin::smile:
As always, be careful and awake in the shop.

Hey....at least you had the good sense to wear short sleeves. Mighta saved you from some SERIOUS chuck rash......

No thanks Ken. I saw what happens to a chuck key left in a drill press. I have seen those big lathes run and I'm glad you managed to out run that key. Bad news, big time.

After I finish using the collet chuck the keys are left in it. Every time I look at them and realize they haven't been removed, I shudder to think of what would happen if I accidentally started the lathe.
