I recently picked up a PSI collet chuck and found it to be a bit bulkier and heavier than I had anticipated. I do most of my turning on smaller lathes and it kind of got in the way.

This is what it looks like now.

I bought their chuck and five piece collet set back in October and it looks nothing like that. Yours has a more "industrial" look to it and appears much longer than mine. I also have a midi/mini lathe and prefer every working inch I can get.

I'm sorry that I did not include more info in my post, it was late, and I was tired.

The picture is what it looks like now after I took to it with a metal lathe and turned away all the excess material I felt I could without compromising it's structural integrity.

It probably just looks longer now because it is so much thinner.

It works like a dream now, and I don't "grind" my knuckles any more.

Looks good. Do you have before and after weights?

You know, after I got finished knocking it down, I said to myself......Self, you really should have weighed that thing first. But I didn't.

The weight now, without a collet in place is about 16.4 ounces.

There is a significant difference, I just don't know how much.

Perhaps someone could chime in with the weight of an original one.
