I am working on a Chrysocolla Trustone blank and it doesn't seem to polish to the same high shine as other Trustones. It is hard as woodpecker lips but my carbide tool worked OK on it.

Has anyone else had the same experience? Any comments are welcome.

I usually wet sand up to about 2500 grit sandpaper, then use Micro-Gloss. I may have to try again with Micro-mesh.

I haven't turned that particular blank yet but all the other trustones I've done by MM to 12000, buffed with tripoli and white diamond, McGuires PlastX polish and ren wax. With that I get a really nice shine to them.

Hey Randy, that one is a little harder to get a nice shine than the others. I would recommend using the MM all the way through 12,000 and then a plastic polish. I've heard many others use CA finish when they have trouble getting a high shine, but I haven't gone that route unless doing segmenting.

You might want to try a buffing wheel with some white compound. I recently turned a yellow dino bone blank (also hard as heck) and had a hard time getting a good shine on it. I briefly experimented with a buffing wheel on part of it and that seemed to help. I'll have to wait until I get back home to really buff it up (I'm away at school without many tools), but I think it will help.
