Sorry I haven't been around much its just a weird time and not really turning pens but I've expanded my segmented work to ornaments. They are hollow and are sort of a bowl with a glued on lid.

Working on a hybrid version.

I really concept Cliff.

I have seen people use a sea urchin for the body and add finials to make drop ornaments. Are the last pair resin / Wood hybrid or is the resin poured around the veneers etc to stick it all together before turning? Not sure for. the photograph.

Either way, fascinating stuff, keep going and pushing the boundary

This is pre fill. Its just like a segmented ring but resin every other segment. I put the 12 pieces of the ring together with a rubber band and glued every other segment to one piece of cardboard and the others to the top piece and then took it apart.

Sealed it up with tape and hot melt.

I over filled it to let any bubbles float to above the wood. Its liquid diamonds so no pressure pot. Sitting on top the fridge to get extra heat to cure.

It will look like the one on the left but three layers. These should make 2 ornaments

Well it looks good from here.

My guess is you hollowed in two parts then joined up . I like the "eye" effect in the top . 👍

Yes this was a much larger first attempt. I've come up with better jigs to hold everything.
