Chisel for metal lathe

I know some people use a metal lathe to turn wooden blanks but I'd like to know if they use the standard metal lathe chisels or something more adapted to wood?
Any ideas?

I use the same ones for wood, metal and plastic. Some carbide tipped that I buy, some high speed steel that I grind.

Jerry, you would use normal woodturning chisels for freehand turning; you just need to add a tool rest to the lathe. You would use the metal lathe tooling for more precise work, regardless of the material being turned.

Jerry -- there are no rules that have to be followed -- you can use what ever gear you have.

And you can turn metal on a "wood lathe" using high speed steel or carbide tools (or a file).


-- there is a fair amount of "mix and match" depending on your taste, and what precision is needed. I have both a micro metal as well as a wood lathe.

Then there is the Ornamental Lathe stuff --- whole different world beyond the make it round.

I have noticed that my metal lathe turns the softer metals better at the higher speeds.

Are any of you turning PR or acrylic blanks on your metal lathe?
