Long story short, I've got a leaky garage roof that I think was built using specs from the army field survival manual, and until I get it replaced I'm just gonna have to deal with it as is. Every so often it springs a leak in the area over some of my workbenches, and I'd like to try to waterproof them as cheaply as possible. $80/gal spar urethane would be an option,, but since they're indoors and not in UV just about any cheap alternative would do. Plus, I'm not looking to sand in between coats.

Any suggestions for something I can coat my tables with that'll do the job?

I would think any wood sealer would be fine but I would be more worried about the metal and electric tools. Any chance you can hang a thick tarp or plastic inside and just below the ceiling with a sagging channel to redirect the water drops to a bucket or something like til the roof is fixed?

Thanks for the tarp suggestion. That roof has been an epic / tragedy kind of story with many turns, and would take a lot to explain. It's a real hodgepodge. I have the humidity controlled fairly well so as long as I don't have any drips directly on things, all my equipment should be ok.

Thompson's Waterseal would have been the best low-cost option, but before I got that suggestion, I ended up going with another suggestion to use Quick Shine floor treatment from HD. It's all acrylic, and although thin, at $27 a gallon turned out to be just good enough, and a lot cheaper than spar urethane.
