Casuarina Chalice

Hi people,
This is my first thread so I hope that I do it right.
I sold a small plate to a Pastor who came from Melbourne at one of our Craft Group sales. He was so impressed that he asked me if I could make a matching Chalice, so that he had a set, paton and chalice. Only problem was that the Casuarina timber came from my mate, robutacion, (George) in South Australia. Luckily he had another piece which came from the same log so we were in business.
I finished the Chalice today and emailed a pic to my buyer who was most happy with the piece. I thought that it was OK as well.:biggrin:

You seem to have done everything right, the pic is doing what it's suppose to do so, congrats...!

The chalice turned out very nice and the 2 tone stuff is very puzzling to me..!

Yes, you called it Casuarina from SA but, its proper name now is, Rock-Oak, while many other Casuarina's have also been re-classified recently. Either way, its a great wood and I have "a bit" of it...!:wink:

Interestingly, this species should be most common in your neck of the woods according to this but, I get a few of them growing in my area so, I'm just lucky, everything seems to grow well here...!:wink::biggrin:

Keep up the good work and lets see all those nice turnings you have been doing...!

Hi George, I could have a big skite about applying red dye but the colour is natural, just the way it was turned.

Great looking Chalice.:highfive:.. gotta confess..:redface:. I copied the picture and put it in my go-by file for future reference... I have a couple I need to do and that's a great form.... hope you don't mind if I use it as a reference.:biggrin:
