In our local woodturning Club, we have a young kid (17) that does that. They are nowhere as heavy as the one shown, or as intricate. He mounts them on a turned base and sells them as ring stands.

We tried that years ago and it didn't work for us. Had a lot of lead from back in the day when we made our fishing gear. What was happening was as we poured it would start cooling off and block the deeper areas. Might have everything to do with the type of ants, all we have are fire ants.
