I am just starting to research what is required to cast my own pen blanks and have purchased a 10 ltr pressure pot.

I am now looking for the correct resin to cast and of cause available in Australia.

Is there a difference between polyester resin and polyurethane resin, or are they one and the same.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Terry

You need to find "silmar 41 clear casting polyester resin". They are not the same. We have lots of folks here from your part of the world. I'm sure they will tune in soon and help you with the where part.

Polyester resin is basically fiberglass resin except it is water clear and can be ordered from several places and is also avail in most larger hobby shops and Polyurethane resin is is basically Alumilite (brand name) and should also be avail in some large hobby stores .
Just don't ask here which is better...it WILL start a fight . [}:)]

Thanks guys,

I have read of " Alumilite " here on the forum. So different people use either or, depending on personal choice.
Butch, now that I know that Alumilite is the same as polyurethane I will do another search through the forum.

Many thanks
