I don't know if it's a lathe or something specific for making the threads. But it sure works great!

Think its called a reciprocating lathe. Works similar to a pole lathe

I wonder of it is operated by a foot treadle? You can see the rope coming up through the table

Watch several of the videos on the right of the YouTube window and you can see the artisan working with the lathe.

Sharon, I do believe you are correct about the foot treadle. ALthough, the lathe does start out being driven by a motor and later on after stopping it, I believe he uses foot power when he engages the chuck to go back and forth.

Nice pen toward the end. I like the way he looks it over and makes out like he is writing with his work.

very impressive, When i saw that he was working on a bench, I knew it wasn't a typical lath; so, I followed the clips until I come across this one.

Thanks, it just looked strange for some reason. Been a long time but don't remember it ever looking like that in the turning process. Then again, never did any of that color (only black)
