I hope 2 pictures show up here when I post...
Several years ago a guy gave me some strips of wood for me to make pens out of. I did not get them labelled and a lot of water has flown through my brain and I have no idea what kind of wood I have except that it is not native to the midwest.
I really hope someone (s) is able to help identify these for me.
Thanks

I believe that it appears to be from my experience to be Manzanita burl. The very rough cut as well as color and figure, is very much like Manzanita burl. I cut hundreds of Manzanita burls a year and I would put money on it. If the pieces were sanded smoother I would be more sure. Hope my experience and suggestion help.
Best Regards,

I believe them to be 2 seperate types of wood, they are both dense. The first one has many 'eyes' and the dark areas are where an epoxy spilled on it. I could sand them if it would help.

The one on the left could be a lot of things based on the photo. My best guess would be Redwood Burl. The photo on the right is almost definitely one of the Aussie Burls. Red Mallee is most likely but it could be Horistes or Red Morelle as well.

I thought I had edited my post to specify my guess for Red Mallee was just for the blank on the right...I probably should have been in bed, not posting at 2am.

The photo of the blank on the left is not clear enough for me to make a good guess.
