California Bay Laurel Bowl

Bowl # 3. 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 Was about and inch and a half taller before a dynamic design change.

Still can't use my bowl gouge any better than a mallet...so once again this was hollowed with a 1/2 round nose scraper. Still I'm getting pretty good at scraping!

Finish is BLO and Shellac. I'll add a couple more coats and call it good.

I like what you did. Very nice.

Gives me ideas. I've got 2 Bay Laurel trees/bushes at the corner of my house that have reached above the 2nd story gutters. They have to come down. I can't really see the trunk bases because of the thick growth to the ground. Seems like a nice project, once they have been dried.

Looks good. Use whatever tool works. Raffen used to hollow bowls with only a scrapper.

Peter, keep up the great work. I particularly like the way in which you have photographed the entire bowl. BTW, very nice turning. The finish matches the wood very well. :biggrin:

Cool thing about this wood. It's smells great. It's known locally as Pepperwood and actually smells like black pepper while turning it!
