i've been seeing a few turnings (pens and otherwise) with cabochons in them. are these turned as well or somehow cut out of a larger piece of wood?

i'd like to use some on bottle stoppers and just ain't sure how people are creating them...

thanks.

Andrew,

Cabs include gems, glass, plastics and even wood sometimes. Also, there are items embedded in polyresin - not exactly cabs, but a similar idea.

Is there a specific type you like? Can you direct us to a picture? I would be happy to give info, I have made them all - but this would get REALLY long.

I recently searched for cabs and fire mountain was the very best I could find. they have a ton of choice and will turn an order around very quickly. you can also order only as many as you want (some sites only sell packages with 20-50 of the same item in them).

Hi,

thanks guys... so, by in large, they are purchased a certain size and then glued into place. but ed, it sounds like you can cast then into specific sizes with PR?

hopefully chuck doesn't mind, but i was wondering if this one was turned or purchased since it's wood:
